*  They're very real, even more than authentic ... these businesses rock!  They're fun and funny.  They use 'real speak' and you know they live what they say.

*  Their people love coming to work every day and their customers delight in being part of their active community.

*  They're abundant and successful in new paradigm, creative ways.  Profit at any cost is replaced by win/win thinking and abundance for all leads their motivation.

*  They're leaderful ... everyone in the business contributes passionately and fully.  There's no holding back and no lack of self-expression or creative endeavour.  It's the core of what the company is all about.

These are just some of the brilliant things that identify new visionary businesses today!  We're a growing phenomena, a trend that will shape the present and future of business for the 21st
century.

Can a business be socially brilliant?

"On June 4th I was a presenter at the 'Inspiring a World of Social Brilliance' Conference in London.  At the event, the business panel was asked 'Can a business be socially brilliant?'  Most of the panel (wonderful Corporate Social Responsibility people) answered yes, they thought so.  But one panel member said 'No, a business can't be brilliant.  Only the individuals within it can.'  Well if you want to light a fire in me, that'll do it for sure.

A business is more than the sum of its parts.  In fact, this is the place where magic happens, when we move beyond individual potential into collective co-creation for greater purpose.  It's here that a business comes alive and moves into transformative action!  I see four stages to this process ...

1.  It has to start with empowering passionate, creative, brilliant individuals within the company.

2.  These people have to thrive within a culture that's aligned to vision so they can contribute commercially and socially.

3.  The business begins to influence how business is done, introducing new paradigm possibilities for others to be guided by.

4.  The business comes alive as
a force for planetary transformation.

I won't say there are many businesses that have hit level 4 yet as I believe it's a new arena for the business world.  You can read more about some that are working on #1, 2 & 3 by clicking on Doing It Differently.
  But with #4, what does it take to move from a good company doing good things to being a global force for greater vision and purpose?

In the 2008 Obama campaign, there was a moment where the campaign swung from people rallying behind a leader they liked to being a force for global transformation.  I believe that moment was his Berlin speech, July 2008, where he captured the collective hopes and dreams of global citizens everywhere.  I won't say those dreams have been fulfilled yet, but it was here that the Obama campaign really came alive, gaining huge momentum and moving from a national campaign to being a force for planetary transformation.

Or look at Google whose slogan is 'Don't be evil.'  The term 'google' is now a household word synonymous with internet search.  They have revolutionised our access to the world of information.  They are a force for planetary transformation.  How they'll continue to ride that wave as they grow larger and larger is a fascinating subject.  Want to read more about them and how they've done it so far?  Check out the new bestseller 'Googled ... The key to #4 in my view is
BIG VISION.  Big vision aligns people to it, creates huge energy and requires that we outshine ourselves in what we think we can create.  This is the magical world of SOCIALLY BRILLIANT BUSINESSES!  This is new territory that we'll be seeing more and more businesses stepping into in the coming years."
